VIDEO: Footage emerges of Somerset Park shoot-out

The suspects are still at large and the officer escaped injury after being shot at by the armed gang in two vehicles.

DASH cam and CCTV footage capturing the shoot-out between a Blue Security officer and armed suspects in Somerset Park last week have begun to circulate on social media.

The dash cam footage, released by the company over the weekend, shows the officer blocking in one of the suspects’ vehicles, before he is met with a barrage of bullets striking his vehicle.

The officer escaped serious injury in the incident which occurred on Tuesday (September 16).

Durban North police have confirmed no arrests have yet been made and that a case of attempted murder was opened at the station.

In the secondary video captured on CCTV footage by a nearby complex, the reverse angle of the shooting is seen, with two vehicles fleeing the scene after the officer attempted to stop the Toyota Starlet.

The shoot-out occurred after the officer had responded to an alarm going off on Midsomer Drive when he noticed one of the suspects waiting outside the property.

As he approached, the suspect fled in a white Toyota Starlet.

“Our officers pursued the vehicle and managed to intercept it in Somerset Drive. Upon interception, the suspects exited the vehicle and opened fire on the Blue Security team. Our officer returned fire. Moments later, a second vehicle, a Toyota double cab, arrived at the scene. One of its occupants, dressed in a balaclava and wearing a bulletproof vest, discharged rounds from a rifle towards our personnel. Both vehicles fled the area following the exchange,” the company said in a statement.
