Hijacked e-hailing vehicle recovered in Effingham Heights
Quick-thinking residents and Swift Private Security recovered a hijacked e-hailing vehicle abandoned in Barwood Place.
A hijacked e-hailing vehicle was recovered late on Tuesday night after being abandoned in Barwood Place following quick action by residents and Swift Private Security.
According to Swift Private Security spokesperson Sanveer Sooklall, around 22:00 officers responded to reports of a suspicious white Suzuki XL6 parked along the roadside.
“Upon checking the vehicle’s details with the SAPS, officers confirmed it had been hijacked earlier that evening in Sim Place, Effingham Heights. Tracker was activated during the operation, and the signal matched the vehicle’s current location. Greenwood Park SAPS and the vehicle owner arrived shortly after the recovery,” he said.
“The owner, an e-hailing driver, told police he had been hijacked by two armed suspects while returning from a trip between Effingham Heights and KwaMashu. The suspects fled in his vehicle but abandoned it a short distance away. The driver was left shaken but unharmed,” he added.
Swift Private Security’s CCTV network captured footage of the stolen vehicle entering Belmont Road before being left unattended. The video and all relevant evidence have been handed over to SAPS for further investigation.
The vehicle was later towed by Greenwood Park SAPS for forensic processing.
