Over 500 learners explored their future opportunities during a career guidance session hosted by The Domino Foundation’s Life Skills team.

The session, part of the school’s third annual Careers Day organised by The Domino Foundation’s Life Skills team, was led by Bryce Dekker of Direction. Dekker urged Grades 9 and 11 learners to make subject and career choices based on their own interests and abilities rather than external expectations.

“Students need to discover their own strengths and passions,” he said. “What subjects come easily to you? Which do you enjoy?”

Educator Nobuhle Ndlovu said learners completed personality assessments to better understand their skills and how these could relate to potential careers.

“Too many learners think they have little to offer and just follow what others suggest. We want to expose them to broader opportunities beyond traditional options like social work or nursing,” she explained.

One learner said the workshop revealed new possibilities: “I hadn’t realised there were so many career paths in counselling, social work, or education where I could make an impact and find fulfilment.”

Dekker described speaking at Amaoti’s Career Day as “a privilege,” noting the learners’ enthusiasm and appreciation for the opportunity to plan their futures more confidently.
