Trail of Lights to light up festive season in Durban

The Trail of Lights returns to Durban Botanic Gardens with an extended route, new displays, festive activities, and magical experiences.

IN what has become an annual highlight on Durban’s festive calendar, tickets are now on sale for The Trail of Lights at the Durban Botanic Gardens.

For the ninth year running, the event returns with an even more dazzling display of festive cheer and enchanting experiences.

This year the trail unveils an extended route, brand new themed displays, and festive surprises at every turn.

There will also be two food gardens, live entertainment every evening to set the festive mood, the Ms Claus Craft Café where little ones can make magical keepsakes, and for the second year running, the zipline adventures – soaring through the Gardens’ 100-year-old trees.

The newly opened Tropical Display House will also be beautifully illuminated to add an extra layer of magic to the Trail.

There will be an exclusive with Santa’s Workshop (in partnership with Toy Kingdom and Build-A-Bear) where visitors can create and personalise their own furry friend, making for a heartwarming festive keepsake.

Dates for this year’s event

  • (December 5-7)  The event lights up every night from 18:00 to 22:00
  • (December 10-24)
  • (December 26-30)
  • (January 1-3, 2026)

Charity Initiatives

The event supports a number of charities, including Adopt-A-River, Project Rhino, SAAMBR and the Paws ‘n Claus Evening, on December 10.

On December 10, bring your pets and help raise funds for the Feeding the Furballs charity. Tickets are R60 per dog.

Ticket information

  • Tickets are between R85 to R95 per person (special rates available for pensioners and group bookings).
  • Tickets available online at Webtickets, or at Pick n Pay and Boxer stores nationwide.
  • Tickets at the door are R120 per person and subject to availability (Free entry for children two years and under)
