Pedestrian killed after suspects crash into walls in Sea Cow Lake
Despite the efforts of paramedics, the pedestrian caught up in the incident was declared deceased on scene.
A GANG of suspects ran over and fatally wounded a pedestrian in their attempts to evade arrest in an incident on Tuesday night (November 25) on Triumph Road in the Sea Cow Lake area.
The gang were suspected of being involved in a hijacking of a vehicle in Montclair earlier that day.
It is believed the suspects abandoned the vehicle in Sea Cow Lake and returned hours later not knowing that law enforcement in the form of the Greenwood Park SAPS and the SAPS K9 unit as well as Marshall Security’s Special Operations Team (SOT), Tracker SA and Cartrack were on scene.

“We received information from Cartrack regarding a hijacked vehicle that was travelling on the N2. The white Toyota Rumion had been hijacked earlier and was tracked moving toward Inanda Road,” explained Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell.
“Our SOT members, together with Cartrack, Durban SAPS K9 and Greenwood Park SAPS, positioned themselves at strategic points to intercept the vehicle. The hijacked vehicle was eventually found stationary in a dead-end road a short while later. There were no suspects present and members conducted an extensive search of the surrounding area,” he said.
While the scene was secured, the suspects arrived a short while later in a white Toyota Corolla.
“The Corolla entered the same dead-end. As soon as the occupants noticed the presence of security vehicles, they attempted to flee by reversing at high speed. During their attempted escape, the suspects collided with multiple boundary walls before crashing into a large structure on Triumph Road, bringing the vehicle to a complete halt. The suspects exited the vehicle and fled on foot,” he said.

Powell said officers discovered a signal jammer on the passenger seat of the abandoned vehicle, possibly indicating the suspects had returned to disable the tracking device on the hijacked vehicle.
“It was later confirmed that the Corolla had been used by the suspects earlier in the evening during the hijacking incident. Tragically, it was also discovered that the vehicle had struck a pedestrian during the suspects’ escape, leaving the victim trapped beneath the vehicle. eThekwini Fire and Rescue, along with paramedics, arrived promptly. Despite extensive efforts, the pedestrian was declared deceased on scene,” he said.
The hijacked vehicle was recovered and the suspects’ Corolla, along with the signal jammer and all other exhibits were handed over to Greenwood Park SAPS.
