Top marks for Northwood and Danville matriculants

Matriculants from Northwood School and Danville Park Girls’ High School can hold their heads up high after achieving outstanding results.

THE Matric Class of 2025 achieved an 88% National Senior Certificate (NSC) pass rate, the highest in South Africa’s history.

The national pass rate represents an increase of approximately 0.7 percentage points from 2024.

Overall, KwaZulu-Natal emerged as the best performing province in the country, achieving a pass rate of 90.6%, followed closely by the Free State at 89.33% and Gauteng at 89.06%.

On the local front, Northwood School and Danville Park Girls’ High School had much to celebrate.

Northwood School

Northwood School achieved a 97.5% pass rate while three students achieved top 10 provincial placements.

Overall the Class of 2025 achieved 315 As across all subjects, with 93% of students qualifying for tertiary study, of which 77.4%% qualified with a bachelor’s pass.

School Dux, Kuo-Hung Wang, placed second in KZN and first place in the Umlazi district with a 95.6% aggregate. He also placed as the Top Achiever in all Quintile 5 schools in the province at the Department of Education (DOE) Matric Awards Ceremony.

Two other learners also recognised at the ceremony were Daelin Padavattan and Jerome Naidoo.

Aaron Andhee, Devaughn Govender, Reevaan Juggernath and Muhammed Essack were among seven learners who claimed seven distinctions.

Danville Park Girls’ High School

Principal of Danville Park Girls’ High School Linda Scholtz praised the Class of 2025 who achieved a 96.9% Bachelors pass.

A total of 41 learners achieved A aggregates while 56% achieved an aggregate of more than 70%.

That meant that there was an average of 2.3 A’s per learner.

“To the Class of 2025: we celebrate you, not only for what you achieved, but for who you have become. May you carry your confidence into the world and continue to lead with courage and curiosity. With a 96.9% bachelor’s pass rate and an impressive number of distinctions, our matriculants have upheld Danville’s tradition of excellence. My heartfelt thanks go to our dedicated teachers, our Governing Body, and the parents and guardians who walked every step alongside these learners,” she said.

Four learners obtained eight distinctions while six girls achieved seven distinctions.
