Calling all date-safe restaurants in Durban
Are you a date-safe restaurant in Durban, or do you know of any? We want to hear from you.
IN a city where women are often cautious about meeting new people in public, there is a Durban hotspot which is showing leadership in personal safety.
The question is, are there more of them we don’t know about?
Neighborhood Café in La Lucia recently shared on its official TikTok account that women who feel uneasy on a date can discreetly ask staff for assistance.
It’s a simple way for hospitality venues to play a role in combating gender-based violence and creating safer social spaces.
This kind of initiative gives women a way to signal discomfort without confrontation and underscores the café’s commitment to fighting gender-based violence (GBV) in our communities.
The café’s approach echoes international efforts such as the “Ask for Angela” campaign abroad that helps people in uncomfortable situations get support from staff without their date knowing, because no one should feel trapped or alone if they begin to feel unsafe.
With Valentine’s Day coming up, there may be some romantics who are planning their first meet for this day of love.
Neighborhood Café has taken a big step, but are there more restaurants that have also joined in which we don’t know about?
