Security boss back in court for uMhlanga murder

The matter has now moved to the High Court, where the pretrial conference is expected to deal with procedural issues ahead of a full trial.

Ferrel Govender will appear in the Durban High Court today, this time for a pretrial conference, as proceedings continue in the murder case of uMhlanga businessman Shailen Singh.

Govender, a security company boss, and his brother Darren are charged with Singh’s murder, which took place in broad daylight on December 29, 2024, on Meridian Drive in uMhlanga.

Singh was shot multiple times, and investigators recovered several spent cartridges at the scene.

Govender has remained in custody following multiple unsuccessful bail applications. His brother Darren, however, was granted bail earlier this year.

This is a developing story, updates to follow.
