Top achievers recognised at mayoral Matric awards

The ceremony honoured learners and schools which performed exceptionally well in the 2025 National Senior Certificate examinations.

ETHEKWINI’S top achievers were recognised at a Mayoral Matric Awards Ceremony at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli Convention Centre on Friday last week.

Included in the line-up were learners from Northwood School and Danville Park Girls’ High School.

Led by eThekwini Mayor Cyril Xaba, the ceremony honoured learners and schools which performed exceptionally well in the 2025 National Senior Certificate examinations.

Among the achievers recognised was the top 10 learners in eThekwini, top 10 learners from disadvantaged Quintile 1 to 3 schools, schools that achieved a 100% matric pass rate and schools that demonstrated significant improvement in the matric pass rate.

Xaba awarded 10 full bursaries to top achievers from disadvantaged schools.

These bursaries provide comprehensive support for full-time studies at public institutions of higher learning.

“Your commitment continues to shape the future of eThekwini. Your performance sends a clear and powerful message that hard work, discipline, and support yield excellent results,” Xaba said.

Among the top achievers recognised at the event were Northwood’s Kuo-Hung Wang, who placed second in KZN and first place in the Umlazi district with a 95.6% aggregate.

He also placed as the Top Achiever in all Quintile 5 schools in the province at the Department of Education (DOE) Matric Awards Ceremony.

Two other learners also recognised at the ceremony were Daelin Padavattan and Jerome Naidoo who placed seventh and ninth respectively in the province.

Danville’s Robyn Colls (seven distinctions) was also present at the ceremony who placed in the Top 10.
