Ratepayers body expresses frustration over illegal dumping

The Glen Hills/Glen Anil Ratepayers’ Association said that the issue of llegal dumping is one of the issues residents raise most frequently.

THE Glen Hills/Glen Anil Ratepayers’ Association has said the issue of illegal dumping in the Glen Hills area, particularly on Malacca Road and Ryde Place, is one of deep frustration.

This comes after a clean-up of Ryde Place over several days, organised by Rowena Bosman, PR councillor for Ward 110 earlier this month.

Despite the operation, just days after the clean-up the good work was undone as more people illegally dumped.

Sam Reddy, the chairperson of the ratepayers’ association, said illegal dumping is one of the issues residents raise most frequently.

“It comes up at AGMs, our committee meetings, and in everyday conversations with our members. The message has been clear: simply cleaning up after dumping happens is no longer working,” he said.

Reddy said part of the solution could be the installation of a camera to deter illegal dumpers.

“We’ve agreed that prevention has to be part of the solution. That means strengthening community accountability, working more closely with Neighbourhood Watch, and expanding a community camera project to cover known dumping hotspots like Ryde Place and Malacca Road which was decided at our AGM in November 2025. The aim isn’t to punish people unnecessarily; it’s to deter dumping, gather evidence when it does happen, and restore a sense that these spaces are valued and protected,” he said.

He added enforcement from the City was also needed to effectively combat the scourge of illegal dumping.
