Concern over Ronan Road speed hump heights
Some of the newly installed speed humps are higher off the ground than they should be, say residents of La Lucia.
LA Lucia residents have raised concerns over the height of new speed humps installed on Ronan Road.
While speed-calming measures have long been called for by residents on the road, the latest additional humps are higher off the ground than they should be, residents said.
One resident has placed a sign outside their home on a mini chalkboard with a warning saying ‘High Speed Bump’.
The road was recently resurfaced with new kerbing being installed along the road’s edge.

The high speed humps have also been raised with ward councillor Bradley Singh, with one resident raising the matter at a public meeting held last week.
“I’ve spoken to the contractor and he has acknowledged there is a problem with the speed humps. He said they will shave it to a gradient that’s acceptable that meets the eThekwini Traffic Authority (ETA) speed hump policy. All speed humps have to be a certain height; while I agree we are not engineers, with the naked eye we see there’s a problem with the height,” he said.
The speed hump heights have also been addressed by eThekwini Municipality’s marketing and communications deputy head Gugu Sisilana.
“The City recently engaged with the contractor regarding the reinstated speed humps on Ronan Road to ensure that all work aligns with eThekwini Municipality’s engineering standards and specifications. The contractor has confirmed that they will begin the required adjustments this month,” she said.
Sisilana added the project is still in progress, and all work forms part of the standard verification and inspection processes undertaken before final approval.
