Gateway jeweller heist suspects make second court appearance
The suspects face charges of robbery and attempted murder after two armed response security officers were shot.
FIVE men arrested in connection with the robbery of a jewellery store at Gateway Theatre of Shopping more than a week ago made their second appearance at the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday (April 22).
Sfundo Mthethwa, Khetha Ngcobo, Nkululeko Mbatha, Vukani Dlamini and Anele Radebe were remanded into custody at Westville prison pending further investigations.
They face charges of business robbery and attempted murder and made their formal bail applications.

Two armed response officers from a private security company who were shot and injured in the brazen robbery on April 12 remain in hospital. One officer remains in a critical condition while the other is in a stable condition.
The men were arrested in uMlazi a day after the robbery at Premji’s Jewellers, where police also recovered some of the stolen jewellery estimated to be valued at R3m.
