Woman robbed, stabbed at uMhlanga reserve

It is understood that security has been beefed up at the Umhlanga Lagoon Nature Reserve following the incident.

A WOMAN was robbed and stabbed while walking along the nature trail in the uMhlanga Lagoon Nature Reserve on Friday afternoon (April 24).

The incident occurred at about midday and it is believed the suspect may have entered the reserve from the M4.

“It was established that the victim had allegedly been accosted by a male suspect armed with a knife while utilising the trail. The suspect then robbed her of her belongings before fleeing the scene,” said KZN VIP emergency medical spokesperson Gareth Naidoo.

“The injured female managed to make her way onto Lagoon Drive, where she requested assistance from passing motorists. Emergency services were then contacted and responded.”

Durban North SAPS attended the scene, however the victim was severely traumatised and had not made a statement before she was taken to hospital.

Northglen News is awaiting comment from KZN Wildlife but it is understood that security has been beefed up at the reserve.

Robbery incidents at the 26 hectare nature reserve are rare and it is believed this is the first incident in more than a decade.
