Relief as Prince Mhlangana Road reopens
A section of the road had been closed for several months due to the collapse of an embankment affecting traffic in and out of the area.
PRINCE Mhlangana Road has been reopened much to the relief of residents and Ward 34 councillor Andrew Akkers.
A section of the road had been closed for several months due to the collapse of an embankment.
The embankment above the road began eroding in November last year, with a major collapse occurring around December 18 following heavy rainfall.

The incident resulted in large volumes of soil covering the roadway and damaging infrastructure, including an above-ground sewer pipeline near the Riverhorse Valley Business Estate.
“Teams were hard at work to reopen the road ahead of schedule. They have also had to remove large volumes of sand which had entered the stormwater drains. I want to thank the residents for their patience and understanding during this period,” he said.
“The municipality wanted to install several Gabion baskets around the above-ground sewer pipeline to secure the infrastructure and prevent any more of the embankment collapsing on the road. There is still concern there may be further slippage from the embankment,” Akkers said.
