Man shot dead in Springfield Park

The crime scene in Springfield Park remains active after a shooting incident this afternoon (Friday) where a man was shot dead.

A man believed to be in his 30s was shot dead in Springfield Park this afternoon (June 19).

Emergency services responded to the shooting at the corner of Ashfield and Willowfield roads at about 13:15.

ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said paramedics arrived to find police and several security companies already on scene.

“Paramedics found a man, believed to be in his 30s, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. He was already deceased and declared dead at the scene,” he said.

“The events leading up to the shooting are unknown at this stage and will be investigated by SAPS,” he said.

A spokesperson for KZN VIP Emergency Medical Services said responders found the victim inside a vehicle, with multiple gunshot wounds.

“KZN VIP Emergency Medical Services, together with multiple emergency and security stakeholders, responded to reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, responders found an adult male inside a vehicle suffering from multiple gunshot wounds,” the spokesperson said.

“It is believed the victim was travelling in his vehicle when unknown suspects opened fire before fleeing the scene. Sadly, the victim sustained fatal injuries and showed no signs of life. He was declared deceased on scene.”

Police will investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting which are unknown at this stage. The scene has been cordoned off by SAPS and remains active.
