Cornubia boy’s dream comes to life
Inspired by his passion for motorsport, Reach for A Dream created a special day that gave him the chance to experience life behind the wheel.
A 10-year-old boy from Cornubia has seen his dream come to life after the Reach For A Dream Foundation surprised him with a racing simulator, a PlayStation 5 and two racing games.
Saalih Ngema, who lives with congenital heart disease, has always dreamed of becoming a racing driver. His passion for motorsport inspired the foundation to create a memorable dream day that brought him one step closer to experiencing life behind the wheel.

The special day began with lunch at Nando’s, where Saalih and his family joined Reach For A Dream field workers. During a conversation about his love of racing and his ambition to one day drive a real race car, Saalih was presented with several wrapped gifts.
Inside were a racing simulator, a PlayStation 5 and two racing games. The surprise left the young dreamer overwhelmed with emotion as he celebrated the moment with his family.
Reach For A Dream KZN regional manager Kerry Donkin said seeing Saalih’s reaction highlighted the impact a fulfilled dream can have on children facing serious illnesses.
“Saalih’s dream day was filled with excitement, joy and unforgettable family moments. Watching his delighted reaction as his dream became a reality was truly special and reminded us of the power of a fulfilled dream to bring hope to a child and their family,” she said.
Saalih’s mother, Sama Ngema, expressed her gratitude to the foundation for making her son’s wish a reality.
“Thank you to Reach For A Dream for making Saalih’s dream come true. The kindness, generosity and effort that went into making his day special has left us with unforgettable memories,” she said.
Saalih is one of seven children whose dreams are fulfilled each day by Reach For A Dream, a foundation that has been bringing hope and joy to South African children living with life-threatening illnesses since 1988.
