According to Swift Private Security spokesperson Sanveer Sooklall, the company received multiple calls and WhatsApp messages reporting the incident at about 17:00.

“Swift Private Security response officers were immediately dispatched and were the first to arrive on scene, despite the business owner not being a Swift Private Security client,” said Sooklall.

He said the suspects had already fled into a nearby informal settlement by the time officers arrived.

The shop owner told security officers that about 15 suspects entered the business and stole various grocery items, including bags of rice and Nyala products, before fleeing on foot.

Sooklall said Swift officers contacted Greenwood Park SAPS and requested police to attend the scene.

“The shop owner advised that they would proceed directly to Greenwood Park SAPS to register a criminal case,” he said.

Swift officers also patrolled the surrounding area in an attempt to locate the suspects, but no arrests had been made at the time of the report.
