Accused attorney to draft pleas in Gateway robbery case

The five accused had previously abandoned their bail attempt and are now entering into a plea agreement which will be submitted to the State.

THE five men arrested in connection with the robbery of a jewellery store at Gateway Theatre of Shopping in April made a brief appearance at the Durban Regional Court on Friday (July 10).

Sfundo Mthethwa, Khetha Ngcobo, Nkululeko Mbatha, Vukani Dlamini and Anele Radebe have been in custody at Westville prison and are facing charges of attempted murder and aggravated robbery.

On Friday, their lawyer Andile Dlomo explained he would be presenting a plea agreement to the State to consider.

What the plea would entail is as yet unclear and will be reviewed by the State.

Magistrate Mayne Mewalal set the deadline for Friday, July 17.

The SAPS Provincial Murder and Robbery Unit are investigating the case and are yet to recover the firearms used in the commission of the robbery.

Just 48 hours after robbing Premji’s Jewellers store police recovered some of the stolen jewellery estimated to be valued at R3m.

Two security guards were shot and seriously injured as the robbers made their escape.
