Questions over Sunningdale water outages during peak hours
A Sunningdale resident in Ward 110 is questioning ongoing water supply problems, with low pressure or no water reported during peak hours.
A RESIDENT of Sunningdale (Ward 110) has raised questions over ongoing water supply challenges during peak hours.
According to the resident, Keenan Deonarain, between 06:00 and 09:00, and 17:00 and 20:00, the area experiences low water pressure or no water at all.
He says questions as to why this is happening have gone unanswered.
He said the issue arose after the July 2026 shutdown and repair to the Northern Aqueduct.

The aqueduct is of significant importance as it’s a pipeline that carries water from the Durban Heights Treatment Works to the areas in the north.
“We have a theory that it could have something to do with a time and the pumps at one of the reservoirs. Like clockwork, outside those times we don’t experience any significant issues unless there is a burst. Some days we experience low water pressure and other days, no water. Prior to July this year there were no issues,” he said.
At the time of publishing the eThekwini Municipality had not responded to queries on the water supply challenges.
“How is it that at other times the pressure is fine? It does impact residents because the peak times are often when people are getting ready for work or coming home. I’ve had to store water everyday because of the issue.”
In recent weeks, poor response times to repair water leaks and bursts have been in the spotlight.
At the heart of the problem has been issues relating to non-payment and rates of pay between the eThekwini Municipality and contracted plumbers.
