MK confirm death of Ward 110 councillor

The MK Party has expressed its shock and sadness following the death of Ward 110 councillor Mandla Biyela.

THE uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK) has confirmed the death of Ward 110 councillor Mandla Biyela after a short illness.

Biyela was elected ward councillor in a 2025 by-election, winning by just 22 votes over the DA opponent, Rowena Bosman.

At the time the win by the MK Party was their first ever metro by-election victory in eThekwini.

Ward 110, previously held by the DA since 2021, includes Mount Moriah, Mount Royal, Rainham, Sunningdale, Glen Anil and a section of Glen Hills.

In a statement the party expressed its shock and sadness at his passing on September 16.

“His passing is not only a loss to the Biyela family, but also a profound loss to the community of Ward 110, the people of eThekwini and the entire membership of the MKP,” said Mkhanka Zuma, the eThekwini Region party spokesperson.

“The MKP eThekwini Region Elections Team extends its deepest and heartfelt condolences to the Biyela family, the Ward 110 community, comrades, friends and the entire MKP family during this difficult period of mourning.”
