A WOMAN was left with serious injuries after a dog attack on Isom Road in Greenwood Park on Tuesday morning (September 29).

A local resident and businessman, Duane Bengtson, first alerted KZN VIP Emergency Medical Services to the attack and tried to help the woman.

It is believe the woman was attacked by a Pit Bull.

“Discovering the woman was being attacked by a dog, he (Duane) attempted to intervene and immediately called for further assistance. The dog continued attacking the woman, leaving her with severe injuries,” explained Gareth Naidoo, KZN VIP spokesperson.

The woman sustained injuries to her head and face and was taken to a Durban hospital.

“When our medics arrived at the scene they found the patient’s condition rapidly deteriorating. Advanced Life Support intervention was required before she was stabilised in a critical condition,” he said.

Naidoo added that Bengtson, members of the community and security stakeholders assisted in restraining the dog and bringing the situation under control.

“KZN VIP urges all pet owners to ensure that their animals are properly secured within the boundaries of their properties. Pets should never be allowed to roam freely or escape onto public roads, as they may pose a serious danger to innocent pedestrians and members of the community.”
