National Opt-Out Registry to silence unwanted telemarketing calls
South Africa’s National Opt-Out Registry launches today, giving consumers a way to block unwanted telemarketing and direct marketing messages.
THE Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, Parks Tau, will hold a media briefing today to outline specifics of the National Opt-Out Registry system that could silence unwanted telemarketer calls.
The Opt-Out Registry system, which launches today (October 7), will allow consumers to pre-emptively block unwanted direct marketing communications.
The foundational regulations for the National Opt-Out Registry took effect on April 15, with the official operational rollout set to commence soon after the outline.

“Direct marketers, on the other hand, will have to cleanse their marketing monthly before running any direct marketing campaign,” said department spokesperson Kaamil Ali.
He said Tau will be accompanied by the National Consumer Commissioner, Hardin Ratshisusu, and the Information Regulator chairperson, Advocate Pansy Tlakula, who will shed further light on the workings of the registry.
The briefing will be held in Pretoria from 13:00 and will be streamed live on GCIS social media platforms.
