Durban North housebreaking suspect under investigation for rape
A wanted Durban North suspect was arrested at Blue Lagoon. Investigators are probing a possible link to an alleged rape and house robbery.
A housebreaking suspect arrested after a lengthy foot chase at Blue Lagoon on Wednesday night is being investigated for a possible link to a rape and robbery reported in Durban North in April.
The suspect, who had allegedly robbed a home on Kruin Crescent earlier in the evening, was spotted by Marshall Security officers on the M4 Ruth First Highway, near the Umgeni Bridge, prompting the pursuit. He was allegedly fleeing after entering the victim’s property unlawfully and stealing a laptop, handbag and wallet.
Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell said the incident occurred shortly after 19:30 and that the apprehended suspect was handed over to Durban North SAPS for further investigation and processing.
“During further investigation, it is believed that the suspect was also wanted in connection with a house robbery and rape incident that occurred in April this year on Kenneth Kaunda Road in Durban North,” said Powell.

“Reports from that incident indicated that the suspect had entered a property during the day, tied up a domestic worker, sexually assaulted her and ransacked the home before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of property. Durban North SAPS attended the scene at the time and a case was opened.”
He added that Durban North SAPS detectives were subsequently informed of the suspect’s arrest and his possible connection to the outstanding case. The homeowner whose property was allegedly robbed earlier that evening, who is not a Marshall Security client, was also informed of the arrest and the recovery of the laptop and wallet.
Powell praised the alertness of the neighbour following the incident at the neighbouring property and the quick response of the armed response officers. He said, “This incident highlights the importance of identifying wanted suspects and ensuring that those responsible for crimes, whether committed last night or several months ago, are held accountable and brought to book.”
