VIDEO: Robin Hood volunteers make 3000 sandwiches for learners

The Robin Hood Foundation delivered sandwiches to seven schools, where some of the learners were writing matric exams at the time.

VOLUNTEERS, businesses and community members joined forces to support The Robin Hood Foundation’s sandwich drive at Crusaders Sports Club last week.

Known as the Sarmie Army, the initiative takes place every second month and includes volunteers gathering to make sandwiches and distribute them to impoverished schools in the area.

For chairperson of The Robin Hood Foundation, Tilanie Grote, the initiative showed the impact of collective action as 3000 sandwiches were prepared.

“It may seem like a simple thing to do but volunteers don’t realise the impact it has. We often hear from the schools we support that on the day we deliver sandwiches there is full attendance.

“The truth is, without the continued support of our community, we simply couldn’t reach as many people facing food insecurity and hardship as we do.”

Last week’s drive was sponsored and supported by Araujo Attorneys who also encourage their clients to get involved in the initiative.
