EDITOR – At the eleventh hour, lawyers for President Zuma applied for a postponement of his appeal against the latest ruling from the Pretoria High Court that he hand over the ‘spy tapes’, this means a further delay.
Two courts have now unambiguously ruled that these tapes, which formed the basis of the withdrawal of some 700 charges of corruption and fraud, must be released.
Despite Zuma and his team repeatedly protesting that they want their day in court, they have spent the past decade doing everything possible to prevent this from happening.
This includes these desperate attempts to stop the contents of the ‘spy tapes’ being released. If, in fact, these tapes exonerate Zuma and prove, beyond all doubt, that he really was a victim of a conspiracy, then why are they so paranoid to prevent their release?
Surely it would settle the matter once and for all and we can all move forward? The tactics adopted by team Zuma however do nothing other than foster suspicion and doubt and significantly reinforce the perception that the only political conspiracy at play was one to rescue Zuma from prosecution.
