Durban North shoot-out, major concern

Recent shoot-out in Durban North worries ward councillor.

Editor: ON 7 April 2014 at approximately 8pm a serious altercation between two rival Kwa-Dukuza taxi associations took place at the intersection of Broadway and Northway in Durban North resulting in 30 shots being fired. Ongoing taxi violence continues to plague the Ballito area.

To see two rival taxi associations bring their fight into Durban North is concerning to say the least. Any such violence puts innocent lives at risk and the DA condemns this act in the strongest possible manner.

I have requested that the matter be urgently raised with the SAPS Provincial Commissioner and the KZN MEC for Community Safety in a bid to gain their assurance that competent units such as Taxi Violence Unit and Crime Intelligence are on top of the problem. Flare-ups such as this cannot be allowed to creep into our suburbs.
