Super Giants claim thrilling victory in Durban
The home team were bolstered by vociferous support from the Kingsmead faithful.
DURBANITES came out in their numbers on Friday to witness Durban’s Super Giants (DSG) secure a two-run victory over the Pretoria Capitals at Kingsmead in their first home game of the Betway SA20 competition.
The Capitals, who looked to be on the road to victory, needed just 17 off the final 12 but the home side’s bowlers held their nerve to take the Durban side home.
In Friday’s game DSG won the toss and elected to bat first with New Zealand’s Kane Williamson and Wiaan Mulder staging an onslaught to score 60 and 45 not out respectively.
Their contributions helped the home side post a formidable 209/4 in their 20 overs.
In response the game seemed like a forgone conclusion as Afghanistan opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz (89) and England’s Will Jacks (65) took the Capitals to 154 without loss in the 13th over.
What followed was an incredible collapse bolstered by tight bowling from DSG to prevent the Capitals from securing victory.
Chris Woakes and Noor Ahmad claimed two wickets each for DSG.
