Battle of the Bands returns

FOLLOWING on the success of the first Battle of the Bands contest, the musical extravanganza, by public demand, makes a return.

Sagren Moodley, director of Box-Office Promotions (creators of the event) said that the public response to the event was overwhelming.

The scheduled two shows at Sibaya’s Izulu Theatre were sold-out and a third show was added.

Moodley attributed the success of the show to the following factors. He firstly praised the bands, The Magnets and the Tyles for their outstanding and professional performances. He said the bands did not disappoint their fans.

He then commended the Karou Charou, who as emcee pieced the entire show together, taking the audience on a nostalgic journey tracing the roots of the band to present day. Via his own unique style he made the audience on their feet singing, clapping and dancing.

But, he said, the star who stole the show, was undoubtedly nine-year-old lead guitarist, Saiyan Naidoo. This child prodigy had grown men in tears as he strummed hits of Dire Straits, Deep Purple, Santana and the Eagles, like a veteran.

Having no formal musical training, Saiyan’s ear for music, means he is destined for greatness.

The Battle Of The Bands show will be at Sibaya’s Izulu Theatre on Friday 18 October at 7.30pm. and on Sunday 20 October at 3pm. Tickets are R120 each at Computicket.
