EMMARENTIA – The Johannesburg Succulent Society hosted their Autumn Show, where a host of different succulent plant species from around the world were showcased.
The Succulent Society of South Africa hosted their Autumn Show on 14 March which was held at the Johannesburg Botanical Gardens. The show drew a host of gardeners and succulent plant enthusiasts from all across Johannesburg.
Treasurer and one of the organisers of the show Anthony Rausch was very pleased with the large turnout at the show this year. “We do these shows twice a year – one in March and the other in October. We have had a record number of show entrants and sellers this year. Every time we seem to be growing and spreading,” he said.
Rausch added, “The show has been running impressively for the last 30 years. It’s been running for a long time. We have had the show held at the Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens, but we’ve found the Johannesburg Botanical [Gardens] as one of the most central places for interest.”
He explained that the people and organisations have been very supportive this year, and that they plan on expanding even further next year. “The Johannesburg Botanical Gardens have been very supportive of the show; they even have their own table on display within the Floreum Hall. So we allow them to be part of the show as well. By the next show, we will have to put up a full-on tent structure to accommodate the growing interest in the show,” Rausch concluded.
