Woodside looks forward to next year
AUCKLAND PARK – Woodside Sanctuary continues to strive to provide disabled individuals with a loving home, with help from their donors.
Woodside Sanctuary was established by a group of concerned parents looking for a home for children with special needs which aims to provide holistic care and stimulation for disabled children and adults by offering them help, hope, love and care.
It is run by a committee consisting of professionals and business people who have an interest in caring for disabled individuals. Woodside Sanctuary general manager, Kristen Williams said that they have had a number of highlights this year, such as having a wonderful turnout for Nelson Mandela Day. She added that it is heartwarming that so many people want to make a difference in residents’ lives.
“Woodside managed to move over from using municipal water to using only borehole water. This is a great highlight as it is helping to significantly reduce our utility costs,” said Williams.
“We also had various nursing students come to complete their practical training. Woodside is a preferred training facility and this year we have assisted almost 300 students to complete the training they needed in order to become qualified nurses.”
She added that the struggle to secure funding in this difficult economic climate has had a heavy effected on the organisation. Another sad moment was having to cancel their Night With The Stars fundraiser because they weren’t able to sell enough tickets. However, next year they are looking forward to taking part in the Nelson Mandela and Casual day celebrations. They hope to receive even more support this time.
“This year we are running a #WoodsideToiBox campaign, which is similar to Santa’s shoe box but with much-needed toiletry items being donated as gifts for our residents.
“We are also hoping to find some donors who would like to help us by donating various Christmas decorations so that we can really brighten up Woodside. However, we are truly grateful for any and all assistance which people are willing to give.”
She concluded by saying she would like to give a big thank you to everyone who has supported Woodside Sanctuary throughout the year, without their generous assistance they would not be able to continue to provide services to those in need.
