NORTHCLIFF – Northcliff High School won first place at the annual Mind Sport SA online school provincial championships on 11 February.

At the inter-schools championship, the school achieved 210 points.

They went up against schools from across the country:

  • Hoërskool Wonderboom
  • Parklands College
  • Saheti School
  • Cedar House School
  • Hoërskool Lichtenburg
  • Oakhill
  • Maritzburg College
  • Midstream College
  • Rondebosch Boys
  • St Stithians
  • Sacred Heart College
  • Camps Bay High School
  • St John’s College
  • Westville Boys High School
  • Grey High
  • Jeppe High School for Boys
  • Curro Klerksdorp
  • Protea Heights Academy
  • Hoërskool Lichtenburg.
The teacher in charge of the games, Noelene du Toit, said on the day each school played from their computer centre, and everything was done online, and the teacher at each school had to send pictures and screenshots in real time.
The school has been a part of the unique sport for nine years. To participate in the eight-hour championships, players are selected at their inter-house games, and from there the best represent the school at inter-schools. All grades can take part.
And why are mind sports important? “I have found that they give these learners a place to belong and they choose to wear their school uniform when competing,” said Du Toit.
