King David Victory Park High School’s matric Class of 2021 surpassed all the school’s expectations and, yet again, the school celebrated the success of another class.
The class faced a year that was riddled with seemingly insurmountable challenges to come out victorious on the other side. The school attained a 100% pass rate and a 100% bachelor degree pass rate. Headmaster of the school, Andrew Baker, said this was no easy feat as 98% of this class managed to achieve an average of 60% and above. This was the 38th consecutive year the school achieved a 100% pass rate.

Baker continued to salute this class for their tenacity, determination and their will to achieve such significant results. “This remarkable group of students all achieved a personal best and despite difficulties presented by two years of interruptions to their schooling by the pandemic, they always remained upbeat and optimistic which is testament to their attitude and work ethic.”
Katelin Drinkwater, a matriculant at the school, said her time at school had been a wild ride, one that had her experience a lot of fun and heartache. “I think one of my biggest challenges was probably the workload you get from Grade 10 onwards.”
She added that it was difficult for her to manage her time but overall she achieved great success. She is excited for the next coming years as she plans to study forensics. She thanked the Class of 2021 for being an ‘awesome generation’ and hoped they went out into the world with gumption.

Many learners achieved a ‘full house’ which is said to be characterised by achieving distinctions for every subject written. One of their learners also placed in the IEB Outstanding Achievements list and another two were placed on the IEB Commendable list.

Another learner of the school, Jarred Wood, should have matriculated back in 2014 but was sadly diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer which made him not be able to complete the school year. However, after taking a break to get better, he finally attained his certificate at the age of 24.

Baker expressed his congratulations to this class for their great success and thanked the staff for their efforts.
