Determination will be the driving force for Ward 89 councillor Zander Shawe as he steps into 2026.

Grateful for his family, health, and work, Shawe reflected on what motivates him. “Being a councillor enables me to fight for a better life in South Africa that has a future for my and everyone’s children.”

His hopes for the community this year are simple yet significant: fewer power and water outages, pothole-free roads, and residents who are healthy, strong, and living in harmony.

He also shared his perspective on the difference between rivals and enemies: “If you have a rival, it means you have someone to measure up against and learn from.”

Looking ahead, Shawe is eager for the 2026 Local Government Elections, which he believes will be an enjoyable campaign season.

He emphasised that respect and humility, virtues that sustained him through 2025, will continue to guide him in the year ahead.

“I hope to one day be seen as one of the best, if not the best councillor Ward 89 has had.”
