Pirates 21k Powered by Medshield sees runners break records

Runners don't need 21 reasons to run this race – they just need grit.

Records were broken, personal bests were achieved, and new goals were set following the 2026 Pirates 21K Powered by Medshield.

They had hundreds of runners take on the challenge of running what has popularly been called Johannesburg’s toughest half-marathon.

The race stretched through several suburbs such as Emmarentia, Linden, Victory Park and Roosevelt Park. Not forgetting the illustrious steep roads of Northcliff – stretches that really pushed the runners’ grit and tenacity.

Jobo Khatoane took the title as the men’s race winner, in a time that broke the previous year’s record. Neheng Khatala took home the first prize in the women’s race, her first attempt at the tough race.
