Melville, Westdene, and Sophiatown quiet amid march concerns

TAU Security confirms Melville, Westdene, and Sophiatown remain quiet, with teams monitoring developments and working alongside authorities.

The streets of Melville, Westene, and Sophiatown are quiet, with no reports of any marches or protest activity on June 30, amid March and March reports in parts of city.

Mohammed Modan, operations director at TAU Security, confirmed that should any developments occur in those areas, updates would be provided.

Speaking while teams were out on patrol, Modan said TAU Security’s response plan depends on receiving accurate information from the ground.

He noted that they are working with the national joint operations centre, relevant groups, and authorities to gather and relay information.

TAU Security currently has members and vehicles deployed in the area and is working alongside the South African Police Service (SAPS), Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), other law enforcement agencies, and security organisations.

Modan said they are operating day and night shifts, with teams conducting scouting operations and security guards positioned across different locations.

“Any movement detected is reported to the control room, allowing our reaction teams and backup to be dispatched when needed.”

He added that patrols are running 24 hours a day, with three vehicles operating in the Sophiatown/Westdene area.

According to Modan, security companies, and the wider national operations group, are also supporting aerial monitoring, with helicopters patrolling across the city. He said larger security companies, and SAPS, have around five or six helicopters operating in the area.

At the time of publication, no marches or gatherings had been confirmed, however the publication will follow up on any developments.
