VICTORY PARK - King David High School players practice with the pros.

Sport plays a vital role in youngster’s lives – whether at a social or competitive level.

King David High School Victory Park (KDVP) recently hosted a specialised cricket clinic for all the King David and fellow neighbouring Jewish schools on 22 June.

The clinic was attended by Lions young cricket star Quinton de Kock, who has also played a number of games for the national team, and former KDVP student Lee Gruskin, who represented the U19A Lions cricket team and present Highveld Strikers squad member.

The coaching programme and sessions included Jono-Liefwright and his team of DJ Coaching specialists, including the likes of Thandi Tshabalala, former South African legs – spinner.

“We had over 40 invited students attend what was an enjoyable and amazing opportunity for all involve,”said director of sports, Peter Truscott.

He added that the players were excited and in good spirit when coached by De Kock.

“It was great to see players like De Kock giving back to the school….The game did not have a winner, we try to promote sportsmanship and to have fun while playing,” said Truscott.

He also highlighted that the game met his expectations for successful coaching and cricket-related exercises which include battling, bowling, fielding as well as the mental aspects of the game.
