Growing Champions FC 2024 looks set to be in a bumper year, again

With the league trophy firmly in their clutches, the team is already excelling in the Premier League.

Randburg was all cheers at the Rand Central League prize-giving held at the Randburg Hockey Club.

“Growing Champions FC celebrated being crowned champions, which feels like a distant memory already,” says Samantha Toweel-Moore.

The underdog team won the league after playing undefeated in 20 matches. “We were promoted the following week into the Premier League. This gave no time for rest and recuperation despite suffering injuries during the tough season.”

All the teams who were consistent in their excellence received their medals.

Head coach Clive Letshaba said, “Our new season opened with a victory of 2–1 over the Randburg FC and concluded with a 3– 1 victory over Grasshoppers FC on Saturday, December 2, at our home grounds at Reddford House Northcliff.”

“We are eight games into the new league and have suffered only one defeat. We are third in the log with only three points separating us from the Crusaders FC, who are log leaders.”

Toweel-Moore says, “We celebrate our victories with immense gratitude. Our forwards have achieved the highest numbers of goals of all teams on the log and our captain, Wandile Billings, and striker Tshepang Mokoena, hold spaces in the top five goal scorers in the league.”

Letshaba is excited about the launch of the next part of the season which opens on January 20, 2024.

“It was a joy to see the youth who give their all to uplift communities through service and may their pursuit of tertiary education be rewarded for their teamwork on the football field. As their personal development coach, I am super proud of their ability to adapt to challenging circumstances.

“The team trusts their coaches and captains, Wandile Billings and Sonti Lebopa, completely and they all fight together for the badge. We can conclude that in 2023 Growing Champions FC players grew in character, unity and strength and we are so looking forward to next year,” added Toweel-Moore.
