100 Kubodo Kata Challenge

The challenge this weekend will involve using weapons to perform the 100 kata.

With the standard set in 100 Kata for Karate Day’ challenge last year, Sho Rinyo Butokukan Newcastle will follow up with a similar but just as intense challenge this weekend.

The 100 Kobudo Kata Challenge 2015 will be held on Saturday March 28.

The challenge this weekend will involve using weapons to perform the 100 kata.

According to the description on challengeokinawa.com the event was inspired by the global success and popularity of the 100 Kata for Karate Day, held in October last year.

In Okinawa, most karate masters also practise weapon skills (kubudo) as an important component of their budo skills. Since ancient times, skill with weapons has been regarded as an essential part of budo training.

The site encourages all those who have yet to take up kubudo, to participate and learn the art this weekend.

While Sensei Frik Willemse would like to have joined the event together with the masters of Okinawa, due to the time difference and participation of youth in the challenge, it will be done independently on Saturday, while Okinawans will begin on Sunday.

The event will take place at Newcastle Senior Primary School at 8am on Saturday, and Butokukan Newcastle invites the community to participate and watch this inspiring performance.
