Meeting
Ravi, a mine manager, and Deveshni, a medical doctor, were given each other’s numbers and spoke via cell phones for two months before they actually met for their first date at Grey Goose Farm Lodge.
“We had similar backgrounds and ambitions for life. Our paths seemed to merge automatically once we met,” said Deveshni.
Proposing
On 1 May 2013, knowing that Deveshni was the woman for him, Ravi organised a scenic flight from Grey Goose to the highest mountain peak in Newcastle.
Going down on one knee, Ravi declared his love and asked Deveshni to marry him; an offer she accepted.
Preparations
Preparing for their wedding, Deveshni explained that it was through hard work, team work and family support that she and Ravi had the wedding that reflected their love for each other.
“My eye for detail frustrated our service providers, but we knew what we wanted and went all out.
“We tried to use local service providers but a large number of service providers did come from Durban. For example, pyrotechnics, sound, photographers and numerous trips to Durban were required.”
The wedding day
The colour scheme for the wedding was red, gold and white.
Held at Farmers Hall, with a 1000 guests attending, the ceremony was one of happiness and filled with love.
Ravi wore a Hugo Boss three piece suit with matching watch, shirt and shoes, while Deveshni wore a traditional barnarasi sari in red and gold with embroidery and crystals.
The invites
The invites to the wedding were designed and printed in India. Red and gold, featuring Lord Ganesha, the invites reflected the importance of the day.
The rings
“My ring is a single princess cut diamond set in platinum with two matching bands with diamonds.
“Ravi’s ring is also platinum with both a matt and gloss finish with three vertical rows of diamonds,” described Deveshni.
The meal
On arrival, guests enjoyed Bombay crush milkshakes with sweet meats and fruit.
Starters included banana puri, jam pastries, pollie, puri patha, quiches and moons with fruit.
The main meal was vegetable breyani with dhal and salad.
Guests also enjoyed soji for dessert.
Souvenirs
“Trinkets with our names, personalised bottled water with our pictures, chocolates and our traditional goodies were handed out as souvenirs,” said Deveshni.
The cake
The wedding cake consisted of five cakes, which were blue velvet, red velvet and fruit- cakes.
The honeymoon
After the magical wedding, the couple dashed off to the Seychelles for a romantic island escape.
Settling down
The couple settled down in Aviary Hill and are looking forward to spend their lives together.
Message
Deveshni’s message for Ravi: “Thank you for all you have done and continue to do for me and my family.
“May our love for each other only grow and become stronger.”
“You are my everything and may we have a beautiful life together.” was Ravi’s wish.
