Eager learner blood donors give a gift from the heart

The familiar red and white minibus pulled into Estcourt High School (EHS) on February 28.

Tirello Phukubie is eager to donate a pint of blood.

It signalled the return of the friendly staff from the South African National Blood Service (SANBS).

Ayush Singh donated his second pint of blood.

They were after learner’s blood.

Estcourt High School blood donors Lwandile Ndlovu, Olwethu Mazibuko, Nomonde Mngadi, Nontuthuko Sithole and Mphoentle Zuma ready to save a life.

School blood donors form a vital part of the SANBS’s network of safe blood, which is used for medical emergencies and treatments.

First time blood donor Khwezi Mncube.

EHS learners did not disappoint and the target of 33 pints was achieved and exceeded.

Altogether 39 learners attended, 34 pints of blood were collected, nine pints of these were thanks to first time donors.

Donating a second pint of lifesaving blood is Gamelihle Jali.

The SANBS staff and Blood Donor Clinic Co-ordinator Mr SM Dawoonarain extend a thank you to the school and learners for their hearty contribution.
