Croc trap set at Klipfontein for roaming reptile
According to Mr Strydom, the Honorary Officers of Ithala have ordered the necessary signage to warn the public of the crocodile's presence and these signs may be erected before next week.

The Klipfontein crocodile has been the talking point of many conversations recently and, with community safety in mind, a growing point of concern too.
However, anglers can rest easy as, approximately two weeks ago, locals set out to lay a trap for the wayward reptile that has been causing such a stir in the hearts of the community.
Honorary Parks Board Officer for Northern Natal, Nico Strydom admits that he couldn’t believe the news when initial reports and sightings of the Klipfontein croc hit social media and admits that, although the crocodile has been making headlines recently, it is entirely possible that he has been there for quite some time already. It’s even possible that he’s not alone.
“I can’t say for certain,” admits Mr Strydom. “But there could be more than one…”
After the trap was set two weeks ago, Mr Strydom and his team went to inspect in the early hours of last Sunday morning and discovered that the bait was, as yet, untouched and speculates that the colder temperatures have possibly affected the crocodile’s appetite.
“We may see some activity as it gets warmer but, at this point he hasn’t touched the bait… the water is too cold at the moment.”
Mr Strydom advises the public to stay out of the water at Klipfontein Dam for now and to avoid the island where the crocodile was last spotted.
“Be alert and awake,” he warns. “Especially at night. If, for some reason, you find yourself in an unlikely situation where you encounter the crocodile at relatively close range, try to move away slowly. Don’t splash and make a noise as that will just draw his attention to you. You are not allowed to shoot or kill crocodiles.”
