The ladies used their hobby to serve mankind and bring some warmth to winter

The chill of winter has already gripped many, but not on the watch of a few residents of Shepstone Place Home for the Aged.

Operational manager Sister Maphalala said, “May God bless you, Shepstone Place.”

A group of elderly ladies from Shepstone Place got out their needles and have been knitting boxes full of essential winter items since last year, such as jerseys, gloves, woollen hats and blankets.

Excitement is written all over Sibanisethu Mbongwe’s face as he plays with a knitted doll.

On Friday, as the ladies entered the children’s ward at Estcourt Provincial Hospital – pushing in the boxes on a walker and trolley – the faces of the staff, children and their mothers lit up.

Some little ones immediately got all snug as they tried on their hats and wrapped themselves up in the blankets.

This annual winter drive benefited 38 children, with a box full of items still remaining.

Donations of wool would be appreciated to continue this drive and can be dropped off at Shepstone Place.
