Drakensberg Secondary lets it flow

Learners braved the needle for a worthy cause

Eager blood donors from Drakensberg Secondary School (DSS) filled a classroom on Tuesday and waited their turn to do a good deed.

The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) made a welcome return to the school and was met by good spirited, eager blood donors, who certainly kept the staff busy.

After filling in the lifestyle questionnaires, learners wait to have their iron levels checked.

The target for the day was set at 47 pints of blood.

As usual, the learners and staff of DSS surpassed this goal and a total of 74 pints of blood were collected throughout the day.

The first step before donating a pint of blood is to fill in the compulsory lifestyle questionnaire.

A whopping 18 new donors braved the needle for a lifesaving cause. Blood Donor Clinic Coordinator, S.M. Dawoonarain thanked staff and learners for yet another successful blood donor clinic.

“We are currently experiencing a blood supply shortage and DSS donors made a great contribution,” he commented.
