#CANSAShavathon 2020 brings hope
The helplessness a cancer patient feels is said to be one of the worst feelings in the world.

The word ‘cancer’ seems insignificant, but has major consequences for someone diagnosed with the disease.
The road to recovery is long, winding and lonely for most cancer patients.
For many, even once a doctor confirms their cancer is in remission, a little voice in the back of their head just can’t seem to keep quiet – keeping them wondering if the ordeal really is over.
A normal day changes forever after a cancer diagnosis.
The helplessness a cancer patient feels is said to be one of the worst feelings in the world.
On Saturday, the Vryheid Herald held its annual CANSA Shavathon and called on residents to either shave or spray their hair.
This act shows solidarity with a cancer patient and that you care about what they have to go through.
As always, residents responded in a positive manner to this annual event. Some have never dealt with a cancer patient, while others have lost a family member to this deadly disease. Emotions were visible on those who shaved off their hair, since some were cancer patients in remission and others showed support for someone battling illness.
One very special woman even donated her 22 centimetre ponytail to the cause.
Organisers of the Shavathon extend their gratitude to Sign Centre, Skin Deep, Pick n Pay, Oasis, Printmate, Golden Peak Spur, Wimpy and JMR.
“Together, we managed to raise more than R4 000 to assist CANSA with patient care, screenings and awareness campaigns. The Vryheid Herald thanks the community for its support.”
