Community bands together to oppose water outages

“This march will yield positive results, from tomorrow, we will start working" - uThukela Public Participation Manager

“We want water … now!”

That was the clear message when locals took to the street this morning (June 10) for a peaceful march, protesting the poor service delivery from uThukela District Municipality, specifically the frequent prolonged water interruptions.

Led by the Estcourt Water Works Committee, dozens of residents met at Princess Park making their way through the central business district, shouting out and holding placards with their demands and pleas for a consistent water supply, access to information and water tankers from the district municipality during water outages.

Meeting the residents back at Princess Park was Public Participation Manager Aaron Mthi from uThukela District Municipality who received the memorandum and promised to provide feedback within seven days.

Mthi declared: “This march will yield positive results, from tomorrow, we will start working.”

The residents departed with their hopes buoyed by the proactive Estcourt Water Works Committee that have decided to take action and the assurances by the uThukela manager.
