First 10s tournament for Vryheid Rugby Club
Vryheid Rugby Club would like to invite all able-bodied players to join the club for practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 18:00 to 19:30
Rugby fever is in the air, hence Vryheid Rugby Club hosted its first 10s tournament over the weekend at the Cecil Emmett sport grounds. Six teams took part in an action-packed day of high-tempo rugby.
Vryheid won three of their four pool games to finish third on the log, where they drew a strong Richards Bay first team. Vryheid put it all on the line and won convincingly with a 22-7 score-line. After a mere 20-minute break, Vryheid then took on their familiar rivals, the Piet Retief first team, in the final. It was a closely contested game, but unfortunately for Vryheid, the more experienced Piet Retief team managed to squeeze out a three-point win against the much younger Vryheid team.
Coach and chairman of Vryheid Rugby Club, Richard Pace, said, “Congratulations to Piet Retief on their good showing. Special thanks to all the teams for their contribution to an awesome day of rugby. The main objective of the tournament was to raise awareness of club rugby in Northern KZN and Zululand, to attract younger players to join their local clubs.”
