7 runners hit personal bests at Vryheid parkrun

A 5km winter walk can energize your body and clear your mind.

With crisp mornings, misty breath, and a fresh chill in the air, winter has a way of coaxing us from under the covers.
This winter, rather than retreating indoors, why not step outside and embrace the magic of a winter 5km walk?
Across South Africa, the cooler season offers the perfect opportunity to get outdoors, stay active and experience the health-boosting benefits of regular walking. A short walk not only warms the body but also lifts the mood, clears the mind, and adds a healthy rhythm to your day.
Vryheid parkrun celebrates top female and male winners, Nhlanhla and Janine.
Vryheid parkrun welcomed first-timers – Lingelihle, Xolani, Karl, Letotlo, Johannes, Lenelle and Jano. Seven personal best times were recorded – congratulations to Lwazi, Janine, Thabani, Thobile, Fundi, Serene and Natasha.
Participating in parkrun is a wonderful way to stay active, connect with others, and enjoy the beauty of each season.
Vryheid parkrun is a free, weekly, 5km event for participants of all fitness levels. It takes place every Saturday at 07:00 from October to March, and 08:00 from April to September. The venue is Vryheid Golf Club, 1 President Street.
It offers an opportunity for the local community, regardless of age or gender, to come together regularly to enjoy the outdoors and get physically active. “We want to encourage people to run, jog, walk and volunteer together – this event is truly open to all; and best of all, it really is free!” one of the organisers said.
Taking part is easy – just register before your first-ever parkrun. The great thing is that you only ever need to do this once. Then just set your alarm for Saturday morning and get yourself there!
Whether you’re a complete novice looking to get yourself started or a regular wanting to use this as part of your training schedule,, everyone is welcome to come along and join in.
