Ndumiso Nkosi sets fastest Vryheid parkrun time this year
Vryheid parkrun delivers record times, family triumphs, personal bests and milestone celebrations.
Vryheid parkrun saw one of its most exciting weekends yet, with perfect running conditions, a big turnout, visiting families and a string of personal best times.
The standout performance came from Ndumiso Nkosi, who stormed home in 16 minutes 23 seconds, not only setting a personal best but also clocking the fastest time recorded at Vryheid parkrun this year.
Adding to the moment, second place went to his father, Justice Nkosi, showing the family’s remarkable running pedigree. Completing the men’s top three was Tyson Sibiya, who also set a new personal best.
The women’s race was led by Smangele Mnguni, who finished strongly to claim her 20th win at Vryheid parkrun.
In total, 12 runners achieved personal bests on Saturday, including Tyson, Lwazi, Mnotho, Nkanyiso, Antony, Johann, Carmen, Marti, Priscilla, Louis and Nompilo. The organisers praised the participants for training hard through the winter months and said the results showed that the effort is paying off.
Dr Miriam was also congratulated for reaching her 50th parkrun milestone – a major achievement for any regular participant.
The event welcomed two families from Nelspruit, as well as Greg from Port Elizabeth, while several newcomers officially registered for the first time. The organisers reminded the runners of the importance of registering – not only to track progress, but also to ensure that emergency contact details are available should they ever be needed.
With summer approaching, parkrun will shift to its earlier starting time of 07:00 from next weekend.
