Nkosi duo shines at Vryheid parkrun

Runners celebrate personal bests and milestones as Vryheid parkrun grows in strength and community spirit.

Saturday’s parkrun brought plenty of excitement as Ndumiso Nkosi crossed the finish line in a personal best time of 16:21. His strong performance earned him first place on the day. In the ladies’ division, Prudence Nkosi claimed top honours, showing fine form throughout the course.

Over the past month, several runners have managed to improve their times, recording new personal bests. For those new to the concept, a parkrun personal best is an individual’s fastest time for the event, whether they run or walk. It serves as a simple but powerful way to measure progress, track fitness and set future goals.

Nine participants reached new milestones this week, namely Ndumiso, Simphiwe, Antony, Wilna-Jeanne, Mbalie, Thabani, Nompilo, Dorethia and Janine. The organisers said it was inspiring to see how many runners were challenging themselves week after week.

The morning also welcomed several first-time runners, new registrations and a few familiar faces returning to the course. The growing turnout reflects the spirit of the parkrun community that is built on encouragement, friendship and the shared love of keeping active.

How to take part:
Joining parkrun is simple and free. Anyone can register online at www.parkrun.co.za, where you’ll receive a personal barcode. Once registered, you can attend any parkrun event across the country.

Participants are encouraged to arrive a few minutes early on Saturday mornings for the pre-run briefing. Each event covers a five-kilometre course that you can walk, jog or run at your own pace. After crossing the finish line, volunteers will scan your barcode to record your time.

Whether you’re aiming for a personal best or looking for a fun and healthy way to start your weekend, parkrun welcomes everyone; no matter your age, speed or fitness level.
