Bafana Bafana vs Sudan – 5 best moments of the game
They qualified for the African Cup of Nations 2015 in style with a deserved 2-1 win over Sudan

Bafana Bafana made our soccer-loving nation on Saturday very proud. They qualified for the African Cup of Nations 2015 in style with a deserved 2-1 win over Sudan at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban. The game was held in Durban to honour the late Senzo Meyiwa, former captain and goalkeeper for Bafana Bafana, who was killed in October.
In preparation for Bafana Bafana’s match against Nigeria tonight (Wednesday, November 19), here is a recap of the 5 best moments of Bafana Bafana’s Saturday showdown against Sudan.
1. The attendance at the Moses Mabhida Stadium – A capacity crowd of just over 32,000 was pleasing to note. With tickets reasonably priced at R80, football lovers took advantage of an unusually cool day in Durban to enjoy some sporting action. Many match-goers carried along posters with messages of support for the late Senzo Meyiwa.
2. The atmosphere at the stadium – The odd 32,000 football fans ensured that Bafana Bafana had a home-side advantage. Their roars, together with the bellowing of vuvezelas, carried Bafana Bafana through from the time the national anthem was sung right until the final whistle blew. For a soccer-loving nation who unfortunately did not qualify to participate in the Soccer World Cup earlier this year, this game was an excellent and nostalgic reminder of the soccer fun we enjoyed during the 2010 sporting showdown.
3. Bafana Bafana’s movement down the left flank – Towards the end of the first half and the start of the second half of the game, Bafana Bafana continued to impress with some ‘catchy’ movement down the left flank and were ultimately rewarded for their efforts when goals from Serero and Rantie gave South Africa a 2-goal cushion.
4. Fighting spirit – After Sudan scored their goal, Bafana Bafana continued to press for an equalizer, having to deal with Sudan’s building momentum. The final 15 minutes of the game proved fruitful for Bafana Bafana, as they did not concede an equalizer, which appeared to be looming, and displayed a hard-fought and deserved victory.
5. Qualifying for AFCON for the first time since 2008 – The match’s most pivotal point was the fact that Bafana Bafana pulled off a great victory which marked their return to AFCON for the first time since 2008. What a great feeling of accomplishment they’ve given us proud supporters!
